Simple And Elegant Charles X Commode With Hooks, Veneered In Blond Elm, 4 Drawers, Beautiful Veined Marble Top
Artist: Non Signée
A rare and elegant 19th-century Charles X style commode with four drawers, including one in the upper frieze, a plinth base, and on each side, beautifully projecting and substantial brackets resting on bases. This well-proportioned, honey-colored piece has everything to charm, with its lovely elm veneer in both vein and burl on the sides and the tops of the legs. The drawers are well-made, as is the fruitwood top with its white wood backs. The beautifully polished veined marble top, with its edges featuring a groove forming two gray moldings with lovely nuances, comes from the Pyrenees and is of great period beauty and is well-finished (the back is neatly pitted). A decorator's piece, beautiful and majestic in its simplicity, including its oval, patinated gilt-bronze keyhole escutcheons. The key is functional and present, as are the three locks on the deep drawers. The most frequently used drawer is operated by a molding beneath the front. A beautiful natural piece, its condition lightened by time, which highlights its beautiful facade in light and color.
