Charles X Period Chest Of Drawers, 1830, In Speckled Maple
A Charles X period commode, circa 1830, crafted from speckled maple inlaid with a symmetrical design of scrolls, foliage, flowers, rosettes, and palmettes. This commode rests on front console legs, also inlaid with scrolls, and is topped with its original, perfectly preserved blue Turquin marble slab, molded around the edge. Most comparable commodes have four drawers; this one has five, offering greater storage capacity. The fifth drawer is concealed within the lower plinth (see photo). The first four drawers retain their original clover-shaped locks with keys that function perfectly (see photo). This commode is of very high quality (Parisian craftsmanship), in excellent condition, and has been French polished.
