Vermeil Dental Hygiene Kit From The First Empire Period
This rare set comprises an ivory toothbrush with natural bristles and a vermeil mount, and a rectangular, double-compartment hinged box, also in vermeil.
The interior is lined with red leather decorated with small gold dots.
The compartments are fitted to the shapes of the accessories. Unfortunately, what were probably a toothpick and an ear pick are missing.
The case is made of red morocco leather with gilt tooling. It has a push-button opening (present, but the locking plate on the lid is missing). The lid retains its original mirror and is wrapped with a thin green cord (one end of the cord is missing).
Hallmarks on the handle and the box: fasces, 1798-1809. A precious curiosity of oral hygiene from over two hundred years ago!
VERY GOOD CONDITION, France, First Empire period, circa 1800.
Dimensions: 12cm x 4cm x 1.8cm.
Weight: 73g
