Attributed to Cornelis Mahu. Oil on canvas, "Little Secrets of the Servants," unsigned. 30.3 x 46.1 cm. Flemish School. Cornelis Mahu (1613-1689) was a master in Antwerp in 1638. His pupil was Caspar Peter Verbruggen I (1635-1681). Still lifes by Mahu are held in the museums of Brussels, Ghent, and Berlin (source: Bénézit Dictionary of Painters and Sculptors). A small, humorous moment in the daily life of the servants, and also an opportunity to highlight the clutter of a saddler's belongings, which will soon need tidying up.
