Church Cruets And Their Tray, Silver And Glass, France By Poussielgue Rousand, Goldsmith
A set of church cruets and their matching silver tray, embossed, engraved, chased, guilloché, and matte gilt. The cruets themselves are made of glass. Their bodies, reminiscent of a pulley, rest on a circular, multi-lobed foot with a stepped edge. This foot is adorned with rich, stylized plant ornamentation within guilloché borders. The tubular neck is constricted by a collar that also serves as the attachment point for the ornate handle, which terminates in a serpent's head. Each lid's handle is embellished with a semi-precious stone knob: burgundy red for one, translucent for the other. The shallow tray, fitted with positioning lugs, features a guilloché rim engraved with scales and vine motifs within multi-lobed borders. The multi-lobed edge is highlighted by a wide band. French work circa 1870. 950/1000 silver, with official hallmarks on each piece. Maker: Poussielgue-Rusand, Paris.
