A beautiful and rare single-door cabinet in exquisite marquetry , signed on the lock by the renowned French cabinetmaker Charles-Guillaume Diehl.
Charles-Guillaume Diehl (1811-1885) was the son of a cabinetmaker based in Steinbach, in the Grand Duchy of Hesse.
He moved to Paris in the late 1830s and married Zoé-Philipinne Vasseur in 1840.
He established his cabinetmaking workshop at 39 rue Saint-Sébastien, quickly gaining a great reputation and employing no fewer than 600 workers and artisans in his factory by 1870.
By the mid-19th century, Diehl had established himself as one of the leading cabinetmakers in the capital, exhibiting at most of the major French and international exhibitions and regularly winning awards, notably a bronze medal in 1855.
