Boulle Marquetry Console Table, Maison Coignerai, Napoleon III Period – Second Half Of The 19th
This sumptuous Napoleon III period piece of furniture, crafted in blackened pearwood in the XIXᵉ century, pays homage to the masterpieces of Charles-André Boulle, Louis XIV's iconic cabinetmaker.
The domed door immediately catches the eye: entirely inlaid with finely chased brass scrolls on a sumptuous tortoiseshell background, it offers a contrast of rare intensity and exceptional decorative richness.
The original lock, perfectly functional, is accompanied by superb bronze escutcheons, reinforcing the authenticity and refinement of the ensemble.
The jambs are magnified by beautiful espagnolettes and ormolu falls, testifying to the virtuoso craftsmanship of Second Empire artisans. The highly spirited sides are enriched with bronze figures and elegant spandrels, adding depth and character to the piece.
The mahogany interior houses two fixed shelves, offering practical storage space without compromising the luxurious aesthetics of the piece.
The Carrara marble top hugs the sinuous lines of the piece perfectly, adding an extra touch of nobility and great durability. Underneath this marble is a label from the Coignerai furniture workshop.
The set rests on two front legs adorned with hooves decorated with acanthus leaves, further proof of the attention to detail and quality of the materials used.
A true symbol of the opulence and refined taste of the Napoleon III era, this sideboard is a masterpiece capable of sublimating both a classic interior and a contemporary setting.
