Boulle Marquetry Console Table, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century

An elegant Napoleon III period console table, featuring magnificent Boulle marquetry, named after Charles-André Boulle, master cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV, who popularized this technique of inlaying chased brass on a tortoiseshell background. This ornamental technique is found in various places, notably on the upper section, the front, and the uprights, always against a blackened pearwood background, creating a striking contrast. The chased brass inlays form interlaced scrolls, foliage, and arabesques. The cabinet opens with a door that pulls to the right, composed of four concave corner elements separated by chased bronze mounts, one of which is fitted with a key for opening the door. The lock is functional. The oval motif in the central section features a prominent bronze molding decorated with flowers and beading. The mahogany interior features two adjustable shelves of the same wood, mounted on a rack. Furthermore, this high-quality, low-height piece of furniture is enhanced by numerous bronze mounts, including sculpted mermaid-shaped drops at the top of the uprights, flower-shaped drops, and bronze mounts in the semi-circular corners. Two moldings of the same alloy embellish the upper section. A third molding, scalloped with petals, adorns the base, while its perimeter, like that of the semi-circular corners, is finely highlighted with brass inlays on blackened wood. This piece is topped with its original, veined Carrara white marble in perfect condition, which adds further brilliance to the whole. This exceptional, two-hundred-year-old piece will undoubtedly add a touch of sumptuousness to your interior. **********Period: Napoleon III, mid-19th century. Certificate of authenticity provided.
