A Cassowary - Bronze By Yoshiki Hasegawa 1892 - 1974 #21
A graduate of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1915, Yoshioki's sculpture "Divine Light" at the 1920 Emperor's Exhibition earned him the first of numerous prizes and commissions. In 1924, he created the monument for Admiral Prince Yorihito (intended to succeed Emperor Meiji). One of Yoshioki's favorite subjects was the Japanese national sport, Sumo wrestling. He exhibited a discus thrower at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic art competition and four works at the 1936 Berlin Olympic art competition. After the war, he focused on depicting female athletes. He also created animal sculptures (sheep, bears, etc.). A certificate of authenticity and an illustrated biography will be provided to the buyer.
