Bronze with a matte black patina - Weight 21.5 kg - some minor wear - a scratch on the left elbow. In 1928, he enrolled in the sculpture department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and studied under Takaji Shimizu (a disciple of Rodin). He graduated in 1933 and received a postgraduate diploma in 1935. In 1930, while still a student, he won first prize at the Imperial Academy of Arts exhibition for "Woman's Face." He exhibited regularly at the Bunten (Fine Arts) from 1938. He became a professor in 1939. In 1944, he exhibited "Nude" at the first reorganized Nitten exhibition and received the Minister of Education's Prize, and in 1948, he exhibited "Nude" at the 5th exhibition and received the Japan Academy Art Award. He became a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1952. His work was exhibited at the White Cement open-air sculpture exhibition (reconstruction art) from 1939 to 1946. He was a professor at Musashino Art University from 1947 and became a full professor in 1956. Since 1953, he has also served as director and executive director of the Japan Sculpture Society. From 1969 to 1978, he received numerous awards and honorary titles. In 1979, he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure.
