A happy mother plays with her child. This cheerful sculpture is the work of Sakuuchi Yamato, born in Nagano in 1901. A forestry worker, he gained recognition for his woodworking skills and enrolled in an art school. From 1936 to 1939, he studied in France at the Académie Julian in Paris. This sculpture is a replica of a monumental group in Soka (north of Tokyo) (see the last photo in the slideshow). In 1972, he created a monument for the Sapporo Olympic Games. An illustrated biography and a certificate of authenticity will be provided to the buyer. Weight: 4.3 kg. Some minor wear. Signed on the base.
