Nude In Drapery, Art Deco Bronze 1920-30 By Yoshiki Hasegawa
Artist: Yoshiki Hasegawa 1892-1974 Japon
1892–1974. Graduated from the sculpture department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1915. At the 1920 Imperial Exhibition, his sculpture *Reikō* ("Divine Light") earned him the first of many awards at official exhibitions. In 1924, he created a monument to Admiral Prince Higashifushimi Yorihito (who was in line to succeed Emperor Meiji). One of Yoshioki’s favorite subjects was Japan’s national sport, sumo. He exhibited at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic art competition and presented four works at the 1936 Berlin Olympic art competition. He explored both traditional Japanese sports and Western sports (such as golf)—a reflection of Japan’s period of cultural transition. Hasegawa was active in various art societies, including the Japan Sculpture Association and the Japan Society for Engraved Pottery, among others.
