Moustier 18th Century. Plate With Fanfare
The fanfare decoration, more commonly known as the flag decoration, is believed to have originated in Moustiers at the middle in the 18th century following the Battle of Fontenoy to commemorate it. The Fouque and Ferrat brothers' factories also employed this design. The earthenware piece offered here is richly decorated, the central motif particularly intricate with all the military symbols intertwined: flags, cannon, drum, batons, fasces, and a shield with grotesque decoration. The figure of the same name is painted with alternating garlands, flower baskets, and storks. The quality of the lines is remarkable, precise, and without hesitation. On the back, there is a blue mark that could be a mark that failed to adhere during firing. A few minor chips are to be expected, otherwise in very good condition.
