Sealing Ring In Carved Mother-of-pearl And Gilt Silver, Dated 1819
Artist: Palais Royal
Parisian work, Palais-Royal, Restoration period. An elegant sealing wax cap in finely carved mother-of-pearl, mounted on a silver-gilt base, dated 1819. The handle, turned from mother-of-pearl with opaline reflections, has a baluster shape with gadroons and fluting, inspired by the Neoclassical ornamental vocabulary. It is adorned with a small applied escutcheon in enameled gold depicting a pansy, a motif particularly popular in the sentimental language of the early 19th century. The silver-gilt base bears an old hallmark. The engraved matrix is dated 1819 and accompanied by a loving motto: "Make her happy." This type of intimate object, both precious and gallant, belongs to the refined production of personal accessories distributed in Paris during the Restoration, particularly in the galleries of the Palais-Royal, then famous for its elegant objects intended for a fashionable clientele. The combination of carved mother-of-pearl, an enameled gold medallion, and a vermeil mount constitutes a characteristic typology of these Parisian productions from the first third of the 19th century. Height: 6 cm. Diameter of the matrix: 1.5 cm. Condition: very good condition.
