Large Niii Mantel Clock, Black Lacquered Wood Inlaid With Fragmented Multicolored Mother-of-pearl, Sig Coutou
Artist: F. Coutou
A rare and beautiful large rectangular wooden mantel clock, entirely lacquered, with a case inlaid with decorative motifs and multicolored fragmented mother-of-pearl foliage scrolls on the front. It features a beautiful white enamel dial with Roman numerals and neo-Gothic hands in blackened steel; the rim is framed by a pretty brass oculus; it is signed in the center F. Coutou "Maison de Confiance" in Graulet... and is protected by a domed glass. It strikes the hours and half-hours (if desired) like a cathedral thanks to its snail-wound spring bell; its key is present, and it runs thanks to its two winding mechanisms, the pendulum weight having an independent attachment for transport, a typical piece of the Napoleon III style, originating from the famous and once wealthy leather-making town in the Tarn region. It is beautiful and very decorative, useful in itself for marking the passing days because it is in good condition and will be able to measure and warn you of the passing time...
