Nature Morte Aux Canards, école De Monsù Aurora, XIXe Siècle, Huile Sur Toile
Artist: Ecole De Monsù Aurora (anvers? 1630 - Nouvelles Jusqu'en 1665)
An important painting from the school of Joannes Hermans, known as Monsù Aurora (Antwerp? c. 1630 - documented until 1665), a Flemish master active in Italy in the 17th century and known for his refined still lifes of animals and hunting scenes.
The work depicts a flock of ducks immersed in a highly evocative twilight atmosphere. The composition is distinguished by its intense naturalistic rendering: the different species are depicted with extraordinary attention to anatomical detail and the quality of their feathers, masterfully illuminated by a grazing light emerging from the dark background.
A hallmark of Monsù Aurora's work is his ability to combine realism and Baroque theatricality: the chiaroscuro contrast, the depth of the marshy landscape, and the vibrant rendering of the water imbue the scene with dynamism and expressive power. The compositional balance and richness of color testify to the full artistic maturity of the artist, who worked between Rome and Naples and was appreciated by the courts and aristocracy of the time.
The painting, housed in an elegant gilded wooden frame, is a work of great collector's value.
