Norman Ring In Gold Leaf With The Depiction Of A Lion's Head. 11th-12th Century.
Artist: Siciliano
Ring in thick, low-grade gold (9 kt) plate with the depiction of the Lion, a symbol of power, courage, strength, and sovereignty for the Normans and Templars. The worn condition of the piece shows constant personal use, with natural wear and a lived-in patina. Given the excessive value of gold in the Middle Ages, and the prestigious depiction depicted, we can believe the object belonged to a Norman nobleman between the 11th and 12th centuries. Medieval Sicily - Gr. 9.8 (Little finger size).
