The intaglio is especially unusual as it is a Renaissance copy of a Roman intaglio, in this case making it a far rarer gem than its ancient equivalent. The gold ring is decorated in high Renaissance taste with a Roman style setting above a beaded border, the reverse of the setting is gadrooned and the shank decorated with carved foliage.
