Late 16th Century Pair Of Candle Holders
Exceptional pair of large, sculpted candle holders in carved wood, painted ebony and finely gilded. The two arms take the form of two angels, sculpted from the bust and complete with wings, holding up two capitals adorned with acanthus leaves, which serve as the candle holders. The lower portion is composed of elegant phytomorphic swirls, which join with the hanging plaques. This pair displays the masterful craftsmanship of the sculpture, the expressive plasticity, and the stylistic rendering typical of Florentine Mannerism, characterized by massive bodies in the style of Michelangelo. This pair of candle holders is highly distinctive and elegant, adding a touch of class and antiquity to any setting. Tuscan craftsmanship, late 16th century.
