Art Nouveau Period Coat Rack/umbrella Stand –
Art Nouveau Coat and Umbrella Stand – Nancy School. This elegant Art Nouveau coat and umbrella stand, made around 1900, reflects the style of the Nancy School, renowned for its nature-inspired furniture and characteristic organic lines. This entryway piece is crafted from a beautiful combination of walnut and mahogany, creating a warm contrast between the darker uprights and the light-grained panels. The architectural composition is topped with an elegant openwork cornice featuring turned balusters and a sinuous cut, typical of the Art Nouveau aesthetic. The central section features a beveled mirror framed by curved uprights. Below this is a decorative marquetry panel with stylized plant motifs, inspired by the naturalist repertoire favored by the Nancy artists. The piece is completed by numerous polished brass hooks and supports, both decorative and functional, for hanging coats, hats, and accessories. The brass crossbar forming an umbrella stand is complemented by a tray at the bottom. The molded base ensures stability and elegance to the whole. This piece is both utilitarian and decorative, highly representative of Belle Époque entryway furniture, where Art Nouveau combined artistic craftsmanship and functionality. A very attractive decorative addition to an entryway or vestibule.
