Born in 1938 in Lyon, Jacques Peizerat grew up between the mountains of Savoy and his hometown, where his mother ran a newsstand. A self-taught artist, he began painting with gouache while working as a young draftsman on construction sites. Determined to learn, he roamed the countryside, painting from life. He frequented Lyon galleries, discovering contemporary artists and drawing on the lessons of Paul Cézanne to achieve balance in his compositions, which gained in harmony.

He presented his first painting at the Salon d'Automne in Lyon in 1958, then at the Salon de la Société Lyonnaise des Beaux-Arts in 1961. From 1968 onwards, he exhibited regularly at the Salon du Sud-Est in Lyon. At the same time, he was employed as a draftsman by the architect Pierre Genton, a student of Le Corbusier, who helped broaden his perspective on the art world.

He continued for a time in figurative painting before focusing solely on the vibrations produced by the subject. Jacques Peizerat thus distanced himself from what his eye perceived, so that only the emotion felt in the face of the subject remained on the surface of the canvas. Details diminished, the motif disappeared more and more, so much so that it seemed to have been digested by the painter, who continued his work in the silence of the studio. In the 1970s, Jacques Peizerat seems to have found access to a form of non-figurative expression that satisfied him. Only the explicit titles given to his works still refer to the initial subject, which is transformed by an ardent lyricism.
