Set Of 6 Provençal Louis XVI Period Armchairs
A rare set of six Provençal armchairs in the Louis XVI style, dating from the 18th century.
The frames are made of wood painted a bluish-grey.
The backrests are shaped like a gendarme's hat. The armchairs rest on four finely carved tapered legs ending in fluted and reeded moldings.
The connecting blocks are adorned with deeply carved daisies.
The seats have been reupholstered; the frame woodwork is sound, without reinforcements or brackets.
The armchairs are covered in a fabric with a pomegranate motif, coordinated with the color of the woodwork.
The beautiful balance of these chairs and the distinctive legs evoke the work of the Nîmes cabinetmaker Pierre-Nicolas Pillot (1748-1822).
