Pair Of Important Saxon Porcelain Subjects, Representing Summer And Winter
Artist: Saxe
Pair of large polychrome Saxon Porcelain subjects representing Summer and Winter.
- Summer is represented by a naked woman.
She is covered with a veil sown with flowers, which covers her nudity.
With her right hand she raises it to probably cover her face and protect it from the sun, while her left hand holds a vase, probably to cool herself.
The subject is standing in front of a rock covered with leafy vegetation.
- Winter is represented by the same "chilled" woman standing with her head bowed, her arms crossed.
Her body is dressed in a purple tunic lined with yellow. At her feet a brazier with lion's muzzles tries to warm her...
This time the character is holding on to a dead trunk.
These 2 figurines rest on a cylindrical base enhanced with 2 golden circles.
Note an old repair on one of the bases. (see photo)
German porcelain marked under each base.
