Sabry Mansour (1943) - La Vitrine, I

Oil on canvas. Original canvas. Hand-signed on the front and back. Sabry Mansour is considered the grand master of telluric surrealism in contemporary Egyptian art. His technique seems to spring directly from the dust of centuries and the stone of temples. Trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo and honed under Spanish influence, Mansour has distilled an aesthetic where the ancestral and the dreamlike converge in a solemn dance. His brushstrokes, with their architectural restraint, do not aim at simple representation, but rather at the exhumation of archetypes. His figures, often imbued with a pharaonic stillness, inhabit spaces where time has stood still, creating an atmosphere of transcendental mysticism that places his work on a sacred threshold, between the mythical past of the Nile and the existential angst of modern man. Mansour's vision is, in essence, a lens through which to contemplate eternity, transfiguring the everyday into a strikingly powerful visual mythology. His mastery of composition is manifested in an organization of space that evokes the hierarchy of ancient bas-reliefs, while simultaneously being imbued with a profoundly contemporary psychological symbolism. Through a palette of ochre, sienna, and deep blue, Mansour bestows upon his subjects—from motherhood to humanity's relationship with the cosmos—a statuary dignity. His legacy is a cartography of Egyptian identity that transcends folklore to reach the universal, making each canvas a mirror reflecting the persistence of the spirit in the face of the erosion of oblivion.- Image dimensions without frame: 80 x 116 cm / 94 x 130 cm with exclusive custom frame.
