Neoclassical Bas-Relief

Allegorical Couple, Patinated Cast Plaster, Late 19th – Early 20th Century.
This charming plaster bas-relief depicts a nude couple embracing in a stylized floral setting. The two figures, seated on a stone bench, draw closer in a tender and intimate gesture. The modeling is soft, with rounded volumes, emphasizing the harmony of lines and the delicacy of the poses. The background, composed of trees, foliage, and an architectural element, situates the scene within an aesthetic inspired by antiquity. The piece evokes the decorative neoclassical works popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, highly prized in bourgeois interiors for their timeless elegance. The subtly nuanced ivory patina highlights the reliefs and accentuates the depth of the scene.

The plaster exhibits the characteristics of an old mold: a raw back, a porous surface, and slight irregularities from the casting process. Presented in a molded frame with fluted and beaded decoration, gilded, which enhances its classical character.
