Center Table, 19th Century, In The Style Of Ferdinando Pogliani
Large center table, Milan, circa 1870. In the style of Ferdinando Pogliani (1832–1899). An important center table in ebony veneer and carved ivory, made in Milan around 1870, in the spirit of Lombard productions of the second half of the 19th century, and in the style of Ferdinando Pogliani. The wide central panel of the top is decorated with a scene depicting a procession of Roman knights, executed with great finesse in engraving. The composition is inspired by an Italian Renaissance model. The peripheral decoration consists of acanthus scrolls, winged figures, and rich vegetal motifs, finely engraved and inlaid. The corners of the top are embellished with oval medallions with miniature scenes. The base, connected by a low stretcher, displays a coherent and abundant ornamental vocabulary, in harmony with that of the top. The central crossbar is structured by a sculpted octagonal baluster, reinforcing the balance and architectural presence of the whole. Italian work, circa 1870. Dimensions: W. 138 cm x H. 78 cm x D. 86 cm
