Bentwood Side Table, Maison Fischel, In The Style Of Thonet – Late 19th Century
Artist: Maison Fischel
An elegant side table crafted by Maison Fischel in the late 19th century, in the purest spirit of Thonet's creations. Entirely made of steam-bent beechwood, it features a rectangular top with softened edges, resting on four slender, gently curved legs. Graceful arched supports connect the legs to the top, providing both stability and visual refinement. The warm brown finish highlights the natural wood grain, emphasizing the characteristic craftsmanship of Maison Fischel, renowned for the quality of its joinery and the finesse of its curves. A versatile piece, it integrates equally well into a Belle Époque interior or a contemporary setting, adding a touch of authenticity and timeless charm. Maison Fischel: Founded in 1871 by David Gabriel Fischel in Bohemia (Czech Republic), the company specialized in bentwood furniture. His son, Alexander Fischel, a former Thonet employee, played a key role in developing the designs, often inspired by Thonet's creations. After Alexander's death in 1895, the company was taken over by Ernst Hirsch, but retained the Fischel name, which had become synonymous with quality and elegance. ******** Period: Late 19th century.
