Algerian Silver Priming Bottle
A refined powder flask, adorned with detailed silverwork and rocaille and vegetal decoration, a style influenced by Western Europe within the Ottoman Empire. A significant production of high-quality arms and accessories from this period came from Algeria, where many Ottoman-inspired weapons were manufactured, often in silver, gold, and coral-plated. This example features a pronounced curve and a sawn silver lock, allowing for the loading of powder into the pan. The horn and lock are marked with tughras. These tughras symbolized the reign of the Ottoman sultan and possessed specific characteristics indicating his title. However, marks of this style were also used in other parts of the Ottoman Empire and are of more local origin.
A rare piece, typical of the high-quality silversmithing of the Algiers region, dating from around the mid-18th century.
