Maurice ALET (1874-1967) – Art Deco Bookcase in Macassar Ebony Veneer. We present this beautiful three-door bookcase/cabinet by Maurice Alet, an iconic French cabinetmaker of the Art Deco period and a key figure in Toulouse cabinetmaking at the beginning of the 20th century. This three-door bookcase/cabinet, veneered in Macassar ebony, is crafted in the purest Art Deco tradition. The central section is glazed over two-thirds of its length, beautifully showcasing the interior shelves. The piece is finely crafted, with a visible signature on the central section, a guarantee of authenticity and quality. This piece combines functionality and elegance, typical of Alet's understated and rigorous aesthetic. Dimensions: 167 cm (H) x 200 cm (W) x 38 cm (D). The bookcase is composed of three separate pieces joined by two bolts that secure the two shelves to the central section. About Maurice Alet: Maurice Joseph Gaston Alet was born on September 7, 1874, in Villefranche-de-Rouergue and died on November 10, 1967, in Pouvourville (Toulouse). He was one of the most important French cabinetmakers of the 20th century, working primarily in Toulouse. Trained at the Toulouse School of Fine Arts under Jean Rivière, he completed his studies in 1897 with a solid mastery of the decorative arts. With his brother Edmond, he founded the La Ruche workshop-boutique in 1898, which quickly became a renowned creative hub, celebrated for the quality of its furniture and its innovative spirit. In 1902, he partnered with Jauvert to create the Jauvert et Alet workshop, which he ran alone from 1924 until 1952. Maurice Alet played a key role in the revival of regional cabinetmaking by combining southern tradition with modernist influences. His work spans the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, as well as the clean lines of the 1940s and 50s, rejecting the use of industrial materials in favor of fine woods and refined veneers. He also collaborated with numerous artists and participated in the founding of the Société des Artistes Méridionaux (Society of Southern Artists) in 1905. His work illustrates a constant quest for "beauty in utility," seeking to reconcile aesthetics and functionality. Maurice Alet's furniture is now sought after by collectors of 20th-century French art furniture for its exquisite craftsmanship and stylistic precision. Contact us for delivery.
