Regency Style Flat Desk, 19th Century
A Regency-style flat desk, made in the 19th century, exemplifies the refinement and excellence of French cabinetmaking inspired by the early 18th century. Its undulating form rests on four cabriole legs richly adorned with finely chased gilt bronze mounts, decorated with foliate swags and mascarons on the front. The sinuous apron is embellished with cartouches and rocaille motifs, highlighting the transition between classical symmetry and the ornamental freedom characteristic of the Regency period. The rosewood and palisander veneer features remarkable geometric marquetry in a frieze pattern, framed by contrasting stringing. The top is covered in gilt-tooled tan leather (or morocco), edged with a gilt-bronze molding. Rich yet perfectly balanced ornamentation, harmonious proportions, and high-quality craftsmanship characterize this decorative and functional piece. A prestigious piece of furniture, ideal for a classic interior, a study, or a palatial setting. Width: 160 cm, Depth: 90 cm, Height: 80 cm
