Ferd. Pogliani Cabinet, Milano – 19th Century Masterpiece
A two-part cabinet made by Ferd. Pogliani, a renowned 19th-century Milanese cabinetmaker. Crafted from blackened tropical wood, it is distinguished by its refined decoration, featuring inlays of ivory, hardstones, and semi-precious stones, illustrating the craftsman's remarkable skill. The cabinet rests on two cabriole legs in an "S" shape, attached to a rectangular base. The lower section has a drawer repeatedly stamped "FERD. POGLIANI EBENISTA MILANO," a mark of authenticity. The upper section opens to reveal a two-door cabinet, framed by sculpted columns, and complemented by two small drawers, also stamped. The gilt brass fittings, delicately patinated by time, lend elegance and depth to the piece, while an openwork brass gallery crowns the cabinet. The original locks and keys, preserved, attest to its excellent condition and authenticity. A true collector's item, this cabinet embodies the refinement of 19th-century Milanese decorative arts and the undeniable talent of Ferd. Pogliani.
