Biography:
Jean Pheulpin (born October 2, 1907, in Valentigney – died October 8, 1991, in Paris) was a French engraver and stamp designer. The son of an industrialist from the Doubs region, he attended the École Boulle in Paris for four years, specializing in metalwork. There, he learned engraving. He then studied at the École des Beaux-Arts for five years.
For several years, he taught drawing in schools in the Paris region. He accepted engraving commissions for national museums and illustrations for books published by the Société des Bibliolâtres.
After World War II, he moved into engraving postage stamps.
Period: First half of the 20th century.
Condition: As is, note a stain in the lower left corner.
Dimensions: 76 x 57 cm.
Dimensions at the plate mark: 68 x 47 cm.
