Paul Buffet (1864-1941), French painter born in Paris, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, student of Gustave Boulanger and Jules Levebre. A history and landscape painter, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1886. He turned towards Orientalism and joined the Société des Peintres Orientalistes in 1893. He received a 2nd class medal at the Salon of 1893.
Winner of the national prize in 1896, a silver medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, and in the same year participated in the decoration of the rooms of the restaurant Le Train Bleu at the Gare de Lyon in Paris. Present at the Colonial Exhibition in Marseille in 1906. In 1907, Paul Buffet participated in the decoration of the Neuilly-sur-Seine town hall and became a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1909. In 1916, Paul Buffet decided to pursue the priesthood. He became chaplain of the Union of Catholic Fine Arts. He was awarded the Legion of Honour.
Works by him are included in the collections of several French museums, including: the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, Troyes, the Musée Crozatier in Le Puy-en-Velay, and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
