Jules Coignet was a 19th-century French landscape painter. A student of Bertin, he drew inspiration from Italy and developed a luminous and poetic style. Close to the artists of the Barbizon School, he participated in this evolution towards a more natural landscape, sensitive to light. He exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1824 onwards and even received the Legion of Honor in 1836. His style evolved towards something freer and more sensitive to light, almost pre-Impressionist in some studies.
