The Little Pleasures Of Life I: Reading In Bed
This is unusual: an artist visits a friend and enjoys sketching him in one of the most intimate and pleasant activities, reading warmly in bed. It's a simple sketch, but everything is said. The artist has focused on the reader nestled in his cushions, which reveal a typical boat-shaped headboard from the first half of the 19th century. His portrait is precise, with his curly hair and sideburns, and his paperback book. The foot of the bed is left only sketched, in the lines of the covers. Judging by the style of the hairstyle, we are in the 1820s/1830s. There is, in fact, a famous drawing depicting Pushkin indulging in the same pleasure. The drawing has been framed for a long time without a mat in a perfectly matching pitch pine frame.
