"Three Small Sawankhalok Pots Thailand XII-xvi"
Three small Sawankhalok pots, Thailand, 12th-16th centuries, with brown and gray glaze and encrusted with secretions. From the 14th century onwards, it is clear that the kilns of Central Thailand (Sawankhalok and Sukhothai) were more export-oriented than those of the North. Thai export pottery has been found as funerary offerings in necropolises in Indonesia and the Philippines. The majority of the ceramics in the collections come from inheritance, looting of necropolises and shipwrecks, firing debris found at kiln sites, and, occasionally, archaeological excavations.
