"Regency Period Sedan Chair In Carved, Gilded And Lacquered Wood With Its Walnut Shafts"
A beautiful sedan chair in carved, gilded, and lacquered wood. The molded uprights are carved with scrolls at the top, terminating in openwork, chased bronze finials. The sides and doors are glazed. The panels are made of celadon green lacquered wood. The handles and rings for the shafts are made of wrought iron. When open, the interior is upholstered in a later period yellow damask silk. The base is lined with studded leather. The rounded top frames the black leather seat. It has two shafts of carved walnut with rocaille motifs within reserves. Regency period, originating from a comital family. Very fine overall form.
