Artist: Johannes Bosboom 1817 - 1891 Country: Holland Subject: Schoolchildren and their teachers in the winter of 1867 in The Hague * Note: It seems that only the engraving of the work, made by Carel Christiaan Antony Last after Johannes Bosboom (1842-1887), was previously known. A group of children, probably schoolchildren or orphans, run in the street, watched over by a few men. Further on, a church. Winter landscape engraved in 1867 (see photo) ** It would appear that this is a genuine discovery of a lost work by Johannes Bosboom, of which only the engraving was previously known. Support: Oil on oak panel Signature: Under the old varnish, lower left, the monogram (B) can be seen under Wood's lamp (see photo). Condition: The composition is 99.7 percent original ***but note that the bottom edge is slightly trimmed (see photo) **** I prefer to leave it as is; the quality is undeniable and it appears to be the original engraving. ***** An unpublished work by Johannes Bosboom, created in 1867.
