"Salon 'réalités Nouvelles' Paris, Exhibition Number 21 (pastel) "
* This composition, whose provenance is believed to be the Salon Réalités Nouvelles in Paris, probably between 1946 and 1948, measures 44 cm x 50.4 cm with frame / 35.2 cm x 41.3 cm with composition. It bears inventory number N 21 on the back (see photo). Observation: It is likely that the backing board with the references has been preserved, but that the frame has been changed. This explains why the work, executed in pastel on gray paper, appears weightless against the black background, but I don't want to remove the frame. The signature is on the left (see photo). This is reminiscent of the works of Theodore Van Doesburg, but this would be before 1933. Is this his signature? It's plausible, but...? Inventory number N 21 should, in principle, provide the answer to this thorny question. * Nelly Van Doesburg, his wife, exhibited her husband's works at the 1946 Salon, as well as her own, since she was also an artist. The pigments are beautifully fresh. And it must be said, it's very beautiful (the blue could be cobalt). I don't know how I could access this kind of archive in Brussels? I don't think we have the catalogues for the Salons Réalité Nouvelles? Or is it the signature of the painter Piero Dorazio?
