"Pair Of Pressed Crystal Candlesticks, Probably Baccarat (pre-1860)"
Pair of pressed crystal candlesticks, attributed to Baccarat, France, mid-19th century, circa 1840–1860. An elegant pair of colorless pressed crystal candlesticks. The slender baluster-shaped stem rests on a circular base with a crenellated rim, decorated with a radiating geometric pattern. It is surmounted by a knot decorated with diamond points, extended by a cylindrical socket decorated with pointed arches. The stem is richly molded with stylized vegetal motifs in relief, giving the whole a high decorative quality and a beautiful effect of transparency and light refraction. A representative example of Baccarat's pressed crystal production in the 1840s–1860s, a period during which pieces were generally unsigned. Condition: good overall condition, slight wear to the underside and a few chips to the base consistent with age.
