Clock "lion Head" In Gilt Bronze Néo-classique Japy Fils 1855
A beautifully crafted clock, featuring a
mechanism stamped "Japy Fils," a renowned family of clockmakers listed
in Tardy's dictionary of French clockmakers. In the Neoclassical style,
dating from the Napoleon III period.
Its finely chased, gilt-bronze case is richly decorated with gadroons and fluting. The main decoration, particularly striking, features imposing lion heads on either side, each holding a flowing drapery, framing a large, domed white enamel dial with blue numerals and finely crafted gilt hands. The entire piece is protected by a domed glass.
It is adorned at the top with an antique-style basin with handles. The imposing architectural base rests on four scrolled consoles, each flanking a gilt-patterned grille.
Original mechanism, unmodified, with hour and half-hour striking on an old bell.
