Large Decorative Platter Signed Raoul Lachenal – Neo-iznik Style, Art Deco, Early 20th Century
Artist: Raoul Lachenal
Large decorative ceramic platter signed “LACHENAL,” for Raoul Lachenal (1885–1956), one of the great French ceramists of the interwar period.
Son of Edmond Lachenal, he developed his own style, blending Orientalist and Neo-Iznik influences, with structured compositions and a keen sense of color and decoration.
This platter, shaped like a dome with a wide basin and a high, truncated conical rim, features a naturalistic decoration of vine leaves and bunches of grapes painted under the glaze, with a manganese outline, colored fill, and subtle shading on an ivory ground.
The rim is adorned with a garland of stylized leaves in arabesques. The reverse bears the centered handwritten signature “LACHENAL” as well as a hand-painted vertical monogram TSL, typical of Raoul Lachenal's workshop pieces.
The network of fine crackles is harmonious and testifies to the artist's technical mastery.
Condition:
Excellent, no chips or cracks, with a tiny, almost invisible retouch on the edge, approximately one centimeter in size. See the last detail photo.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 35 cm
Height: 8 cm
This piece perfectly illustrates the art of Raoul Lachenal and represents a wonderful opportunity for collectors of early 20th-century French ceramics.
A beautiful, signed, and well-preserved piece, rare at this level of quality on the market.
