This is model 298, one of the finest models of the late Rococo period, a transition to Neoclassicism.
Stylistic features:
* Body: ovoid, truncated at the ends, with fine convex fluting in relief, characteristic of the Marcolini period.
* Lid: highly domed, hemispherical, with a finely striated spherical finial.
* Handle: ear shaped without a lobe, S-shaped base, a signature of handles typical of the 1780–1790 period.
* Spout: Rococo style, swollen at the base, double-curved lower profile, scalloped tip, delicate side reliefs.
* Vertical striations: continuous on the body and lid, interrupted only at the spout and handle, highlighting the quality of the modeling.
Decoration:
Hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue, classic "onion" (Zwiebelmuster) decoration, of great finesse, including in the difficult reliefs and grooves.
Intense, uniform colors, without fading, demonstrating the exceptional technical mastery of the Meissen painters of the period.
Marks and signatures:
* Under the base: crossed swords in underglaze blue, a classic Meissen mark of remarkable finesse.
* Below the handles: a six-pointed star formed of three intersecting segments, the distinctive mark of Camillo Marcolini.
* Below the star: the initial "H" between two dots, which is the painter's signature, precise and delicate.
Condition:
Exceptional, near museum condition.
Two tiny chips: one at the tip of the spout and one under the underside of the lid, neither affecting the decoration nor the relief.
No hairline cracks, chips, crazing, or stains. The striations and decoration remain perfectly crisp, vibrant, and intact.
Dimensions:
Height: 13 cm
Width: 17,5 cm
This teapot is a rare and refined example of Meissen production under Marcolini, combining the most sought-after stylistic features: elegant fluted shape, domed lid, spherical finial, ear handle, and exceptionally fine cobalt blue onion decoration.
A near-museum-quality piece that will appeal to both discerning collectors and lovers of historical objects and porcelain craftsmanship.
