"Bas-relief In Plaster And Wood Depicting The Sun King"
An important and spectacular arched bas-relief depicting the Sun King as Louis XIV. The sovereign appears facing forward, crowned with laurel, at the center of a large, radiant medallion representing the sun, the monarch's personal emblem. A banner bears the famous Latin motto: "NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR" ("Like no other" / "Superior to all"). On either side of the medallion, a symmetrical decoration of scrolls, acanthus leaves, and floral motifs unfolds with breadth and elegance. The whole is framed by an architectural molding forming a wide, arched pediment.
