Elephant Forming A Glazed Earthenware Planter - 19th Century

An elegant and decorative polychrome glazed terracotta elephant, resting on a rectangular base, depicting a caparisoned animal in an Orientalist style characteristic of the late 19th century. The elephant is shown standing, head slightly inclined, with prominent tusks and expressive modeling. The back is shaped like a planter forming a circular receptacle, framed by a richly decorated caparison in relief. Restorations and wear consistent with age. Spain, late 19th century
