"Louis XVI Period Clock Signed Cronier, Late 18th Century"
A clock composed of two gilt-bronze eagle-headed uprights supporting a circular white enamel dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the quarters, signed"Cronier / Rue St Honoré à Paris" for Antoine Cronier, established in 1763. It is decorated at the top with two vine garlands, joined at the summit by a quiver bearing gilt-bronze arrows. The clock rests on a wide base of fine black marble, decorated with attributes in olive branches and a quiver, an allegory of love. It has a wire-driven movement. French work, Louis XVI/Directoire period, late 18th century.
