An Italian Painted Wood Wardrobe With Festoons And Architectural Capriccios, Marche, 18th Cent.
Painted wardrobe of Marche origin, dating back to the 18th century. The front of the piece consists of two doors, each featuring two main panels depicting architectural capriccios, with painted sides. The entire background of the wardrobe is mustard yellow, enriched with festoons flanking the frontal landscapes. The lower section of the front includes a drawer framed by a charming landscape set against a light blue background. The wardrobe is crowned with an upper cornice showing traces of mecca oxidation, and the various frames surrounding the painted scenes still retain faint gilding, which further refines and enhances the overall form.
