Porcelain Plate From The Imperial Factory Of Vienna, Late 18th Century
A very fine porcelain plate from the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna, late 18th century. The rim of the plate is decorated with a polychrome motif of four cabochons featuring cherubs, sphinxes, and a dragon, interspersed with a scrolling foliage motif centered on a smoking urn. The whole is embellished with burnished gilt borders. Some of the motifs are borrowed from the Sèvres Manufactory. The Imperial Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna (Austria), from 1784, was directed by Conrad von Sorgenthal (1735-1805). The plate is in good condition with only a few very slight signs of wear (see photos).
