Silver Tableware Set With Hallmarks, Old Man, Salt Cellars And Mustard Pot, Late 18th Century, Etruscan Style
Artist: ?
A beautiful and generous table setting comprising a pair of shuttle-shaped salt cellars with blue crystal interiors and a mustard pot in the late 18th-century Etruscan style. These well-crafted pieces, made of chased, openwork, and engraved silver, bear the "vieillard" hallmark and are of French origin from the Directoire period. The set is in good condition, featuring winged griffins and beautiful openwork mesh, resting on feet with a ball and capital design. The elegant shuttle-shaped apron is adorned with a boat-shaped frieze of antique-style wattle motifs. The interiors, a magnificent blue, are preserved and made of thick crystal. This set is a curiosity and a precious find, especially the mustard pot with its whiplash handle and its slender, pine-pine finial on the hinged lid.
