D4 Leather Folding Armchair By Marcel Breuer

Folding leather armchair, model D4 (formerly B4), designed by Marcel Breuer (1902-1981) around 1926. Tecta edition from the 1970s. Nickel-plated tubular steel frame, black saddle leather elements. Seat height 38 cm. Some signs of normal wear, mainly on the nickel-plated parts, which are slightly pitted; the leather elements are in very good condition. This piece of furniture is a direct continuation of the research conducted by Marcel Breuer, a major figure in modern design and former master of the Bauhaus. From the 1920s onward, Breuer explored the possibilities offered by tubular steel, a material then new to furniture making, in order to reconcile visual lightness, structural strength, and efficient production. His work marked a lasting break with traditional furniture and laid the foundations of functional modern design. Today, TECTA extends this legacy by reissuing and developing some of the most iconic creations from this seminal period.
